Diary of Why - The Wedding (and Cute Animal) Edition
Hello. I'm back!
I'm...very likely shouting into the vacuum of deep outer space? I'm a tall and spindly tree gently tipping over in an uninhabited forest, never making a sound?
In any case, hello. I've missed this. I've missed you. How have I been for the last three and a half years? Oh, I've been fine. Better than fine, actually!
So, I'm engaged. And lately I've been having a lot of thoughts, specifically of the wedding variety, and I'm finding I have nowhere to put them. So far I've been putting these thoughts in a large spreadsheet, and while that is helpful and necessary, it's not particularly satisfying. So here we are. Just me, my thoughts about weddings, and you.
For example, did you know that planning a wedding is kind of a pain in the ass? And did you know that weddings are expensive? I mean really expensive? And that when you look up the average price of a wedding in Washington, DC you will scoff, and think, "Well those must be fancy weddings for rich people. Our wedding will cost but a fraction of that, because we're all laid back and relaxed, and we'll have a chill wedding with like, a buffet, and no wedding party, and I definitely won't wear a veil, because we're not into all that formality, man." And then at a certain point in your planning it will hit you like a ton of bricks that no, that actually IS what it costs to host a chill, laid back, but also fun wedding, and that the fancy, rich people weddings actually cost much MORE than that. And then you will panic, and consider eloping, and dig out your old blog password from 2014.
For the less wedding-inclined among you, I promise this will not be all wedding all the time. There will also be pictures of cute animals.
And here and there a back story, like how three and a half years ago I was on a first date in a bar with a man, and if you had told me then that one day I would marry that man, I would have laughed and laughed and laughed, and then called you a goddamn liar.
Anyway, it's good to be back. If you're still here...thanks. Maybe just say a quick hello in the comments to let me know there are other trees in the forest, and they're listening.
